Move over, Dubai.
There’s a new king in town when it comes to opulent stays in the Middle East. The upcoming Ritz-Carlton Reserve in Saudi Arabia is poised to become the region’s most expensive hotel, with nightly rates exceeding a staggering $3,431.
This ultra-exclusive resort, aptly named ‘Nujuma,’ boasts a limited number of villas – just 63 – each perched above water, reminiscent of the iconic Maldivian retreats. Operated by Marriott International, the Reserve brand caters to the most discerning clientele, offering unparalleled luxury and personalized service.
Nujuma isn’t just about lavish accommodations. Guests can indulge in a world-class spa, a variety of delectable dining experiences, and upscale retail therapy. For the adventurous spirit, a dedicated diving center offers the opportunity to explore the breathtaking coral reefs surrounding the island.
This record-breaking resort is part of Saudi Arabia’s ambitious Red Sea Project, a multi-billion-dollar initiative aimed at transforming the kingdom into a premier luxury tourism destination.
The Red Sea project envisions a total of 50 hotels, with 16 slated to open by 2025 and the remaining 34 by 2030. Many of these properties will be managed by renowned international brands, further solidifying Saudi Arabia’s position as a serious competitor to established luxury havens like Dubai.
While Nujuma currently holds the title of the most expensive hotel, future contenders are lurking on the horizon. Several hotels within the Red Sea project itself are potential challengers, particularly the highly anticipated Shebara Sheybarah Island resort.
This ultra-exclusive retreat boasts only 73 keys and boasts a unique design featuring private villas housed in futuristic stainless-steel orbs.
But Saudi Arabia’s luxury ambitions extend beyond the Red Sea. Aman resorts are planned for Diriyah Gate and AlUla, while Neom, another mega-development, will welcome a Chedi ski retreat and a Four Seasons at its Sindalah yachting island project.
One thing is certain: Saudi Arabia is making a bold statement with its commitment to luxury tourism. With record-breaking hotel rates, stunning resorts, and a focus on personalized experiences, the kingdom is poised to rewrite the map for opulence in the Middle East.
Whether it dethrones Dubai entirely remains to be seen, but one thing’s for sure – travelers seeking the ultimate in luxury will soon have a new destination to add to their bucket lists.
