Also designed by Giampiero Tagliaferri, the Libra armchair introduces a sculptural accent. Inspired by seventies aesthetics, the design is composed of overlapping padded volumes upholstered in leather or fabric, creating a balanced interplay between seat, backrest and headrest.

Architectural Balance: Riley seating system, Andrée and Stage coffee tables

Where softer silhouettes introduce warmth, more architectural pieces bring structure and contrast. The Riley seating system by Hannes Peer reflects this balance through its geometric form and precise detailing, with vertical quilting adding rhythm to the upholstery.

Alongside the seating, the Andrée coffee table, also designed by Hannes Peer, introduces a decorative counterpoint. Inspired by the facades of 1970s Milanese architecture, the design pairs glazed ceramic surfaces with chrome-plated brass trims, adding texture and reflective depth.

The Stage side table further extends the palette through wood and metal finishes, with tops available in Canaletto walnut-stained light brown or glossy Moka lacquer.

A Contemporary Neutral

As the UAE’s creative economy continues to expand, a new generation of homegrown design brands is emerging, led by founders shaping the region’s creative identity while navigating an increasingly complex global landscape.

One such example is Yla, a Dubai-founded furniture atelier created by engineer and long-time UAE resident Benoît Rondard, who has lived in the country for more than 25 years. Alongside his role as Founder of Yla, Rondard is also General Manager at Eurotech in Jebel Ali, a metalwork company that anchors the brand’s local production capabilities.

For Rondard, building a design brand in the UAE is not only a business venture but a reflection of the country’s growing creative ecosystem.

“Building Yla from Dubai is both a responsibility and an opportunity,” he says. “The UAE has created an environment where entrepreneurship, design, and industry meet in a very direct way. Being a homegrown brand means contributing to that ecosystem while demonstrating that high-quality design can emerge from this region.”

Launched in Summer 2025, Yla explores a material not traditionally associated with domestic interiors: metal. Its debut Audace Collection, developed with French designer Remi Damilleville, reimagines stainless steel and aluminium through sculptural seating, tables, and bookcases designed to bring softness and emotion to industrial materials.

Produced locally in Jebel Ali, the collection reflects a model that keeps design, engineering, and manufacturing closely connected – something Rondard believes is increasingly important as companies rethink supply chains and production strategies.

“Yla was conceived and developed in Dubai, and our pieces are produced locally in Jebel Ali using stainless steel and aluminium. This proximity between design, engineering, and production allows us to experiment, refine, and maintain a very high level of craftsmanship. At the same time, it reflects the spirit of the UAE itself: ambitious, international, and open to new ideas.

We are grateful to build the brand here because the country genuinely supports new initiatives and creative industries. It gives founders the possibility to transform an idea into a tangible project.”

In an increasingly unpredictable geopolitical environment, Rondard believes resilience for creative businesses lies in focus, adaptability, and community.

There are doorways, and then there’s this doorway — a 20-foot-high cedar masterpiece rising from its own honeyed reflection like an invitation to an alternate, bee-carved dimension. The scent hits first — roses, jasmine, and something suspiciously close to romance. Behind that towering entrance stands The Oberoi Marrakech: part palace, part mirage, and wholly unapologetic about either.

Nearly a decade in the making, this marble-and-zellige dreamland feels like a love letter to grandeur itself. The lobby? A theatrical performance of gold brocade, crystal chandeliers tumbling like frozen rain, black-and-white tiles performing geometric ballet, and a portrait of King Mohammed VI presiding over it all. The place doesn’t whisper luxury — it chantsit, in three languages, under a 17-foot cedar dome.

Oberoi, the Indian hospitality dynasty famed for turning “service” into something bordering on telepathy, has planted itself in Marrakech’s upmarket scene like a rose among roses. Think La Mamounia elegance, reincarnated with a touch of Taj Mahal reverence. Only here, you also get front-row seats to the Atlas Mountains, birdsong courtesy of Jardin Majorelle’s Madison Cox, and a spa that probably knows your chakras before you do.

Then comes Rivayat, the Michelin-starred jewel by Chef Rohit Ghai, serving Indian flavors so transcendent they could convince a spice trader to weep. The Vue bar ties it all together with cocktails and piano notes echoing through an Art Deco dreamscape — imagine a Belle Époque gentleman’s club reimagined by Wes Anderson.

Now, about The Oberoi’s concierge team — they don’t just organize experiences; they manifest them. I’m convinced there’s a wand hidden behind that reception desk. Case in point: Hajim, the Marrakech insider and local legend. He’s on a first-name basis with Scarlet Johansson, Leonardo DiCaprio, and the Obamas — and somehow still finds time to guide methrough the city’s pink labyrinth. ‘Ramadan Nights at the Park’ returns to Umm Al Emarat Park, fostering shared family experiences during the Holy Month

Umm Al Emarat Park will welcome the return of Ramadan Nights at the Park this Ramadan, following the initiative’s successful inauguration last year. The month-long programme is designed to offer families and friends a series of shared experiences that reflect the values of togetherness, cultural connection and reflection, in line with the UAE’s Year of Family.

Set within the park’s natural surroundings during Abu Dhabi’s winter season, the programme embraces the spirit of Ramadan through a range of community-focused activities, providing a calm outdoor setting for visitors to gather, reconnect and observe the Holy Month.

Each evening, the Iftar cannon will mark the breaking of the fast at the park’s Main Gate, beginning on the final day of Sha’ban at Maghrib prayer time.

From 19 February, families and friends will be able to gather at the Ramadan Garden, a dedicated outdoor space within the park, to enjoy Iftar in a tranquil environment accompanied by live oud music. The Ramadan Garden Iftar menu has been curated in collaboration with Emirati chef Mariam Al Mansoori, whose approach draws on Emirati hospitality, family traditions and recipes passed down through generations, presented alongside contemporary influences.

Iftar will be served daily at Children’s Garden from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm and includes traditional Ramadan beverages. Special rates apply for children aged six to 12, with complimentary access for children up to six years old. Corporate Iftar options will be available for groups.
