COUPE by Minotti

Brown is re-emerging as one of the defining tones of contemporary interiors. Once associated with the nostalgic interiors of the 1970s, the colour is now being reinterpreted through a more refined lens, introducing depth and material richness to modern living spaces. After several years dominated by pale neutrals and cool greys, designers are increasingly introducing a spectrum of warm brown tones – from deeper shades such as espresso and cocoa to softer hues including caramel, tan and walnut – bringing greater character and contrast to current interior palettes.

Used thoughtfully, brown acts as a versatile neutral within contemporary spaces, adding structure while softening lighter schemes. Layering deeper chocolate tones with caramel or tan shades introduces subtle depth, while softer tones such as off-white or cream keep the composition light and balanced. Accents in bronze or brushed metals, alongside rich woods and textured fabrics, further enhance the layered quality of the palette.

Reflecting this shift, Minotti explores these richer tones across its latest collections. At the Minotti Dubai flagship store in Jumeirah, sculptural seating and refined finishes illustrate how brown tones can shape contemporary interiors.

BEZIER white by Minotti

Sculptural Foundations: Bézier seating system and coffee table

Statement seating is one of the most effective ways to introduce brown into a space. The Bézier seating system by Marcio Kogan / Studio MK27 embodies this approach through its fluid, organic silhouette and generous proportions. Inspired by the parametric curves developed by French engineer Pierre Bézier, the sofa’s rounded volumes create a sculptural presence that feels both architectural and inviting.
Upholstered in warm tones, the design anchors the living area while maintaining visual softness. Its modular configuration expands into island-like compositions that encourage relaxed gathering and conversation. Paired with the Bézier coffee table, featuring a Canaletto walnut top in light brown veneer, the composition highlights how brown can extend through both upholstery and natural materials.

Layered Upholstery: Coupé and Libra

Brown tones are equally effective when introduced through seating arrangements. The Coupé seating system by Giampiero Tagliaferri reinterprets the aesthetic language of 1960s and 1970s interiors through a contemporary lens. Its overlapping rounded volumes and tone-on-tone stitching emphasise softness and craftsmanship while maintaining the understated elegance characteristic of Minotti.

Also designed by Giampiero Tagliaferri, the Libra armchair introduces a sculptural accent. Inspired by seventies aesthetics, the design is composed of overlapping padded volumes upholstered in leather or fabric, creating a balanced interplay between seat, backrest and headrest.

Brown contemporary interiors with Minotti Dubai

Architectural Balance: Riley seating system, Andrée and Stage coffee tables

Where softer silhouettes introduce warmth, more architectural pieces bring structure and contrast. The Riley seating system by Hannes Peer reflects this balance through its geometric form and precise detailing, with vertical quilting adding rhythm to the upholstery.

Alongside the seating, the Andrée coffee table, also designed by Hannes Peer, introduces a decorative counterpoint. Inspired by the facades of 1970s Milanese architecture, the design pairs glazed ceramic surfaces with chrome-plated brass trims, adding texture and reflective depth.

The Stage side table further extends the palette through wood and metal finishes, with tops available in Canaletto walnut-stained light brown or glossy Moka lacquer.

A Contemporary Neutral

Far from being a passing trend, brown’s return reflects a broader shift toward interiors that prioritise depth, materiality and balance. When layered thoughtfully through furniture, finishes and textures, the colour introduces a quiet sophistication that feels both timeless and relevant today.

The post Yla: The Dubai Furniture Atelier Shaping a New Era of Homegrown Design appeared first on Luxe Gulf Magazine.

]]>

As the UAE’s creative economy continues to expand, a new generation of homegrown design brands is emerging, led by founders shaping the region’s creative identity while navigating an increasingly complex global landscape.

One such example is Yla, a Dubai-founded furniture atelier created by engineer and long-time UAE resident Benoît Rondard, who has lived in the country for more than 25 years. Alongside his role as Founder of Yla, Rondard is also General Manager at Eurotech in Jebel Ali, a metalwork company that anchors the brand’s local production capabilities.

For Rondard, building a design brand in the UAE is not only a business venture but a reflection of the country’s growing creative ecosystem.

“Building Yla from Dubai is both a responsibility and an opportunity,” he says. “The UAE has created an environment where entrepreneurship, design, and industry meet in a very direct way. Being a homegrown brand means contributing to that ecosystem while demonstrating that high-quality design can emerge from this region.”

Launched in Summer 2025, Yla explores a material not traditionally associated with domestic interiors: metal. Its debut Audace Collection, developed with French designer Remi Damilleville, reimagines stainless steel and aluminium through sculptural seating, tables, and bookcases designed to bring softness and emotion to industrial materials.

Produced locally in Jebel Ali, the collection reflects a model that keeps design, engineering, and manufacturing closely connected – something Rondard believes is increasingly important as companies rethink supply chains and production strategies.

“Yla was conceived and developed in Dubai, and our pieces are produced locally in Jebel Ali using stainless steel and aluminium. This proximity between design, engineering, and production allows us to experiment, refine, and maintain a very high level of craftsmanship. At the same time, it reflects the spirit of the UAE itself: ambitious, international, and open to new ideas.

We are grateful to build the brand here because the country genuinely supports new initiatives and creative industries. It gives founders the possibility to transform an idea into a tangible project.”

In an increasingly unpredictable geopolitical environment, Rondard believes resilience for creative businesses lies in focus, adaptability, and community.

“Our approach is simple: we stay committed to our work while continuing to support the ecosystem around us. Our team continues to build, collaborate with architects and designers, and welcome visitors who want to engage with the brand.”

For founders building global brands, Dubai offers a rare combination of infrastructure, connectivity, and international energy.

“Few cities in the world allow a founder to design, produce, and present a brand to a global audience from the same place. The city is also incredibly international. Designers, architects, investors, and entrepreneurs from many countries operate here, which creates a dynamic environment for collaboration and exchange of ideas.”

For a brand like Yla, this environment is particularly valuable.

“We design pieces inspired by nature and contemporary living, but we present them to a global community of architects, designers, and hospitality professionals who reside in or pass through Dubai every day.”

Yla Furniture Atelier - Chair

Looking ahead, Rondard believes homegrown brands will play a defining role in shaping the Middle East’s creative future.

“As the region continues to invest in culture, design, and architecture, locally developed brands can bring perspectives rooted in this region while remaining globally relevant. The next decade will see more brands emerging with the confidence to compete internationally.”

For Yla, that journey continues with seasonal evolutions of the Audace Collection and additional nature-inspired colourways planned for Spring 2026.

“Design should evolve,” Rondard adds. “It grows, it breathes, and it transforms.”

• The limited-time offer for Eid Al Fitr recognises residents as partners in the UAE’s continued growth and prosperity

• Initiative builds on the success of DAMAC’s Ramadan campaign supporting Emirati buyers

• “We are all one nation and one family,” Amira Sajwani, Managing Director, DAMAC Properties

DAMAC Properties, the largest private real estate developer in the UAE and the Middle East, has announced that its “Buy a Home, Get a Luxury Car” campaign will now be extended to all UAE residents. Marking the spirit of Eid and aligned with the UAE’s Year of Family, the limited-time campaign reflects the ethos expressed by the UAE’s leadership that every resident who contributes to the nation’s progress is a part of its story.

By extending the offer, DAMAC aims to celebrate the shared commitment of citizens and residents alike in building vibrant communities across the country. The initiative builds on DAMAC’s recently launched Ramadan programme for Emirati buyers. Recognising the millions of residents who have helped shape the UAE’s success and continue contributing to its growth and prosperity, the offer has now been broadened.

Amira Sajwani, Managing Director of DAMAC Properties, said: “The UAE’s remarkable success has been built not only by its citizens, but also by the many residents who have chosen to build their lives and futures here. By extending this initiative, we want to recognise residents as true partners in the nation’s progress, while offering meaningful support for families who see the UAE as their long-term home. After all, we are all one nation and one family.”

Residents purchasing selected UAE residential units before 31 March 2026 will receive a complimentary vehicle based on the property value:

 • For units priced at AED 1.5 million and above: Nissan Pathfinder SL 4WD
 • For units priced at AED 3 million and above: Nissan Patrol SE Platinum City
 • For units priced at AED 5 million and above: Nissan Patrol NISMO

The time-bound offer is designed to encourage long-term homeownership while enhancing the lifestyle value associated with property investment in Dubai.

At a time when geopolitical uncertainty continues to shape global investment decisions, Dubai’s real estate sector remains a beacon of long-term confidence. DAMAC’s Eid campaign reflects its commitment to creating communities that support families, residents and investors choosing to make their home in the UAE.

There are doorways, and then there’s this doorway — a 20-foot-high cedar masterpiece rising from its own honeyed reflection like an invitation to an alternate, bee-carved dimension. The scent hits first — roses, jasmine, and something suspiciously close to romance. Behind that towering entrance stands The Oberoi Marrakech: part palace, part mirage, and wholly unapologetic about either.

The Oberoi Marrakech Luxury Villas, Atlas Views & Michelin Dining - Exterior

Nearly a decade in the making, this marble-and-zellige dreamland feels like a love letter to grandeur itself. The lobby? A theatrical performance of gold brocade, crystal chandeliers tumbling like frozen rain, black-and-white tiles performing geometric ballet, and a portrait of King Mohammed VI presiding over it all. The place doesn’t whisper luxury — it chantsit, in three languages, under a 17-foot cedar dome.

Oberoi, the Indian hospitality dynasty famed for turning “service” into something bordering on telepathy, has planted itself in Marrakech’s upmarket scene like a rose among roses. Think La Mamounia elegance, reincarnated with a touch of Taj Mahal reverence. Only here, you also get front-row seats to the Atlas Mountains, birdsong courtesy of Jardin Majorelle’s Madison Cox, and a spa that probably knows your chakras before you do.

Inside, Berber and Mughal art collide in a cultural waltz — studded sofas from Casablanca, tiled fireplaces worthy of an Arabian Nights cameo, and arches so graceful they could give ballet lessons. You don’t check in here; you’re absorbed — as if you’ve been adopted by a noble Moroccan family with impeccable taste and a fondness for cardamom tea.

Rooms Where Towels Anticipate You

The villas and suites are minor miracles of foresight. Heated pools? Naturally. Butler service? Of course. Widescreen Atlas views from your bath? Well, it beats Netflix. There are 78 villas tucked into lush gardens and six suites perched in the palace like royal theatre boxes. Everything — from the saffron sofas to the brass light switchboards — is positioned exactly where you’ll reach for it before you even think to. Honestly, it’s unnerving how seen you feel here.

The Food — and the Fables

At Tamimt, breakfast arrives like a love poem to Moroccan mornings: the m’semen flatbread so buttery it could make a Parisian cry. Azur, by the pool, is where you go to atone for your pastry sins — a “clean-eating” temple that makes virtue taste suspiciously indulgent. Then comes Rivayat, the Michelin-starred jewel by Chef Rohit Ghai, serving Indian flavors so transcendent they could convince a spice trader to weep. The Vue bar ties it all together with cocktails and piano notes echoing through an Art Deco dreamscape — imagine a Belle Époque gentleman’s club reimagined by Wes Anderson.

Concierge Sorcery

Now, about The Oberoi’s concierge team — they don’t just organize experiences; they manifest them. I’m convinced there’s a wand hidden behind that reception desk. Case in point: Hajim, the Marrakech insider and local legend. He’s on a first-name basis with Scarlet Johansson, Leonardo DiCaprio, and the Obamas — and somehow still finds time to guide methrough the city’s pink labyrinth. With Hajim, Marrakech stops being overwhelming and starts being cinematic. Case study: Bacha Coffee, the world’s oldest and most Instagrammed café, where mere mortals queue for hours. When we arrived, the team was waiting, our table already “storied” (their word, but fitting). If these walls could talk, they’d have a book deal by now.

Breakfast in the Sky (Because Ground-Level Is So Last Season)

Then came my literal high point: breakfast in a hot air balloon. Only in Marrakech can you sip coffee and tear into a croissant above the Atlas Mountains while watching the sun rise like it’s performing just for you. And naturally, it was The Oberoi who made it happen — turning altitude into attitude. How will I ever enjoy another balloon ride without coffee from Bacha and an Oberoi pastry basket? Spoiler: I won’t.

Sidecar Shenanigans

Back on terra firma, the adventures continued — this time in a vintage motorbike with a sidecar, careening through the pink city’s narrow alleys. It’s equal parts James Bond, Indiana Jones, and mild chaos. The Oberoi’s team choreographed it all with their usual finesse: organized spontaneity, the kind that makes you feel wild and worry-free at the same time.

Why I’m Ruined for All Other Hotels

From sky to souk, The Oberoi Marrakech doesn’t just curate experiences — it tells stories, each scented with rosewater and spiced with charm. Their service is less hospitality, more hospitality-as-art-form. The concierge? Superpowered. The design? Sublime. The atmosphere? That rare mix of majesty and intimacy that makes you believe you belong. This isn’t just the best way to experience Marrakech. It’s the only way.

Most Elegant Iftar & Suhoor Experiences in Dubai

Editor’s Note

Ramadan dining in Dubai continues to mature. Tradition remains central, but presentation, atmosphere and service now define the experience as much as the menu itself. Whether by the sea, beneath a grand canopy or within a discreet courtyard, the city offers settings suited to every style of gathering this season.
